On December 8, 2024, the American Society of Islamic Philosophy and Theology hosted its 6th annual conference, generously supported by the John Templeton Foundation. The event, conducted in partnership with Harvard’s Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, Brandeis' Near Eastern and Judaic Studies, and the Journal of Islamic Philosophy, featured a diverse range of presentations and discussions on key topics in Islamic philosophy and theology.

Held from 8:00 to 9:30 AM, the conference brought together distinguished scholars to explore significant areas of Islamic thought, including Islamic mysticism, philosophy, and theology, with a focus on both historical traditions and contemporary relevance.

The first presentation, "Islamic Mysticism in Theory and Practice at the Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School: An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis" by Ahmad Sahidah, offered an in-depth examination of Islamic mysticism at the Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School in Indonesia, exploring its theoretical underpinnings and practical applications.

Mohammad Hasan Sadeqi Alavicheh and Mostafa Taqavi presented their research on "The Traditions of Teaching and Studying Mulla Sadra's Philosophy in Shia Islamic Seminaries," analyzing the continued relevance of Mulla Sadra’s works in Shia seminaries in Qom and Tehran, with a particular focus on their pedagogical traditions.

Mohamed Jabir Ali Al-Hudawi tackled the "Complexities and Relevance of Teaching 14th Century Usūlī Texts in the Modern Era: A Case Study of Jamʿ Al-Jawāmiʿ", offering a critical perspective on the challenges and modern-day significance of teaching classical Islamic jurisprudence texts in the context of contemporary education, particularly in Brunei and India.

Finally, Claire Gallien discussed "De-Religionising Islamic Theology and Re-Theologising Islamic Literature," exploring innovative approaches to the intersection of Islamic theology and literature, with contributions from Marianne Moyaert and Sidi Muḥammad Ibn al-Ḥabīb, reflecting on the ways Islamic thought continues to evolve and engage with modern intellectual currents.

The event highlighted the ongoing efforts to bridge historical Islamic thought with contemporary philosophical and theological discourse, promoting dialogue among scholars from various parts of the world.

This conference underscored the enduring vibrancy of Islamic philosophical traditions, highlighting both their historical depth and their relevance to modern-day academic and theological discussions.
